Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter melted
  • 3 cups apples peeled, cored and rough chopped (Granny Smith recommended)
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 3 tsp ground cinnamon

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease an 8×8-inch (or 9×9-inch) baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the brown sugar, rolled oats, flour and melted butter until crumbly.
  3. Press half of the crumb mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan to form an even layer.
  4. Spread the chopped apples evenly over the crumb base.
  5. Sprinkle the apples with the white sugar and cinnamon, then crumble the remaining oat mixture over the top.
  6. Bake for about 35–40 minutes, or until the top is golden and the apples are bubbling.
  7. Let the crisp cool for about 10 minutes, then serve warm — great with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
