Simple vanilla ice cream made in a KitchenAid ice cream maker bowl — a basic base you can customize with mix-ins.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups whipping cream
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch salt

Method

  1. Make sure the ice cream maker bowl is fully frozen and assembled according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. Add the whole milk, whipping cream, sugar, vanilla extract and a pinch of salt to the pre-frozen ice cream maker bowl.
  3. Mix on Low for 30 minutes, or until the mixture reaches a soft-serve consistency.
  4. Stir in any additional mix-ins (nuts, candies, fruits, syrups) by hand if using.
  5. Pour the churned ice cream into a pre-chilled loaf pan (9″ x 5″).
  6. Freeze in a deep freeze for at least 2 hours to firm up before serving.

Notes

Author note: I sometimes substitute by using 1/2 cup milk + 1/2 cup half-and-half in place of 1 cup whole milk (we use 2% milk). If you’re unfamiliar with the KitchenAid ice cream maker attachment, consult the manufacturer’s instructions or online tutorials.
